Meet Nilusha!

About Nilusha

(She/Her)

I am a Registered Psychotherapist (RP #001727) and member of the Ontario Society of Registered Psychotherapists, with over a decade of experience providing psychotherapy large mental health agencies.  I completed my Master of Education in Counselling Psychology in 2008, and have been lucky enough to work as a therapist ever since!  While completing my education, I also spent a number of years working in a mental health research office and volunteering for various mental health organizations.

As humans, we function at our best when we feel connected to others, and true connection can’t come without a measure of vulnerability. My aim is always to create an environment in which clients can be emotionally open and vulnerable, in whatever form and to whatever degree they need. I love working individual teens and adults, as well as with parents and families, creating a connection with them that adds to their inner strength.  To me, there is nothing like helping my clients understand the impact they have on the world around them, and vice versa.  Developing relationships with my clients that are strengths-based, client-centered, and driven by their own goals has always been the focus of my career.

The biggest predictor of positive outcomes in therapy is the relationship between the client and practitioner; finding the right "fit" is key.  Because getting an idea of a therapist’s personality is a large part of determining the “fit”, here is a bit more about me:

I am:

  • kind of a nerd (…I may or may not have Lego sets displayed in my office…)

  • a mom

  • a late-diagnosed “ADHDer”, and therefore passionate about helping others work with their ADHD symptoms

  • a VERY proud supporter of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community

  • a lifelong “helper”. I was always the person people went to in order to vent their emotions and worries, and I love being able to provide that support to others

  • a psychotherapy client, myself (as are most, if not all, of the other therapists you may speak to — because mental health is just like any other aspect of our health, so we ALL need to attend to our mental health sometimes)

  • a believer that, while I may have expertise in mental health/psychotherapy, YOU have expertise in what works best for you; combining those things can allow us to determine what you need to reach your mental health goals

If you would like to find out more about me to determine if I may be a good match for your therapeutic goals, please feel free to contact me.  I'm looking forward to getting to know you!
